family (&) medicine
1. the time is drawing near when my maternal and paternal sides of the family will meet. & either all of the family drama will surface (once they hand out the wine), or everyone will have the sense to keep quiet long enough to celebrate the wedding. it’s a good thing my mother is taking care of seating arrangements. in a moment of mild insanity, i may have had the lunatic idea of putting all the feuding relatives in one table. probably because i’ve always loved the circus!
2. what is colonial mentality? it’s when you’re aunt who migrated to the states over 45 years ago refuses to go back to her home province because “she’s afraid she’ll get depressed.” i ask, depressed about what? i assume that it had something to do with the fact that my grandparents are no longer around, or that she hasn’t been home in decades, etc. “she’s afraid she’ll get depressed from seeing poverty.” O_O //facepalm! i won’t even attempt to dissect this.
3. i need to come up with a toast. great.
